CNA provides policyholders with a broad range of casualty solutions lines from small, guaranteed cost to large customized loss-sensitive primary & excess casualty programs for multiple industry segments including Construction, Financial Institutions, Healthcare, Hospitality, Life Sciences, Manufacturing, Professional Services, Real Estate, and Technology. Coverages include:
- Workers' Compensation
- General Liability
- Auto Liability
- Auto Physical Damage
- Umbrella/Excess
This role is part of the Global Casualty Product team responsible for the governance and oversight of the global Workers' Compensation portfolio. You will work closely with leaders across the enterprise to establish underwriting standards, guidelines, forms and filings, pricing strategy, reinsurance usage, underwriting authority standards and the audit process. The position will work with Legal, Claims, Risk Control and Actuarial to analyze trends to promote profitable growth.
The ideal candidate will have casualty underwriting or product experience, specifically Workers' Compensation, with exposure to guaranteed cost and loss sensitive plans. Individuals should have strong coverage knowledge or ability to quickly gain knowledge in these lines as well as skill in assessing exposures to loss, loss analysis and pricing. You will be responsible for the overall management, analysis and monitoring of a book of business of the highest complexity. In conjunction with senior level management, you will work within the broadest limits of authority requiring the highest degree of technical complexity and coordination.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
1. Works with senior management approving underwriting language on the most complex underwriting risks employing advanced diagnostic and systematic analysis to assess acceptability.
2. Evaluation and approval of appropriate pricing of the most complex risks based on financial and competitive analysis in line with compliance requirements.
3. Participates with senior management in the development and implementation of underwriting guidelines, policy, and strategy.
4. Interprets corporate strategies and initiatives to tailor the company's approach.
5. Analyzes quality, quantity, and profitability of the product line.
6. Drives cross-functional product development initiatives, managing priorities, timelines, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality product outcomes.
7. Keeps current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends where they may represent the company in industry trade groups.
8. Confident in freely shares knowledge and expertise with others, mentoring and guiding less experienced underwriters, and assisting in the development of underwriting training.
9. Responsible for special underwriting projects and presentations.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
1. The highest level of technical and product specific expertise, underwriting skill and knowledge of insurance and underwriting principles, practices and procedures.
2. Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners.
3. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects.
4. Ability to deal with ambiguous situations and issues.
5. Creativity in resolving unique and challenging business problems.
6. Ability to achieve results by taking a proactive long-term view of business goals and objectives.
7. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
8. Demonstrated leadership skills.
Education and Experience
1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Professional designations preferred.
2. Typically, a minimum ten years underwriting experience with proven track record of results.

I n certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia , California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois , Maryland , Massachusetts , New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $97,000 to $189,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
