Position Summary:
As a Tax Accountant at SPS, you'll play an important role in supporting both our direct and indirect tax compliance efforts. In this role, you'll help gather and analyze data, conduct tax research, assist with audits and notices, support quarterly tax provisions, manage monthly compliance activities, and respond to customer billing inquiries.You'll collaborate closely with our third-party tax providers as well as internal billing, accounting, and financial reporting teams, giving you broad exposure across the organization. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys detail-oriented work, cross-functional partnership, and being a key contributor on a growing tax team. This role will report directly to the Domestic Tax Manager.
- Reconcile and analyze monthly tax reports generated from the various billing systems
- Prepare and record journal entries in Oracle
- Prepare tax account reconciliations in accordance with internal SOX controls
- Assist with preparation of tax return and tax provision workpapers and calculations
- Prepare responses to government agency notices and information requests for income and sales and use tax audits
- Partner with third parties to ensure the accurate preparation, review and filing of recurring sales and use returns and other government-mandated business filings (e.g., annual reports, unclaimed property returns, franchise tax returns, etc.)
- Monitor state and federal law changes and document impact to the company
- Monitor and manage tax department e-mail
- Monitor and manage the tax filing due date calendar to ensure timely filing of returns and payments
- Research and provide timely responses to tax-related customer billing inquiries
- Assist with projects and initiatives as needed
- 2 or more years relevant public or private experience
- Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Curiosity and desire to learn and become a subject matter expert
- Familiar with direct and indirect tax regulations for federal, state, and local jurisdictions
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and project management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work and multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work effectively in a team setting
- Ability to translate, simplify, and communicate (both verbal and written) complex information to individuals with varying levels of expertise and job roles
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), most importantly in Excel
- SaaS or Software company experience
- Experience with Bloomberg, Checkpoint, or similar tax research tool
