The starting pay for this position is $32.51-$36.57 per hour, depending on experience.
About the role:
The primary function is to ensure the timely and accurate underwriting of HE Loans, HELOC, Conventional, Government (FHA/VA), Construction and Unimproved/Land loans in accordance with PenAir and secondary market guidelines - according to specific state and federal requirements that properly manage risk. Verify the validity of the information provided while maintaining a working knowledge of all services and operations of the credit union.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze mortgage and home equity loan applications to verify that application data is complete.
- Audit all loan documents required to support the application such as income, assets, and credit criteria to confirm loan eligibility.
- Determine the acceptability and marketability of the real estate property to ensure there is sufficient collateral to secure the loan.
- Review/understand effects of contracts related to real estate, such as age restrictions, HOAs, etc.
- Adherence to investor requirement with or without an automated underwriting system.
- Analyze exceptions and rejections; recommend alternative mortgage products that could bring the loan within guidelines.
- Work closely and collaboratively with loan originator and processor to ensure all appropriate data and required documentation is obtained.
- Analyzes all construction-to-permanent loans.
- Builder approval and recertification.
- Develops cost to construct.
- Verifies all contracts for total cost to construct.
- Reviews all increase, decrease, and modification decision approvals.
- Prepare adverse action (loan disapproval) notifications, with awareness of the compliance provisions of the regulatory agencies.
- As needed, submits exception requests as specified in the PenAir Credit Union Loan Policy.
- Aids in quality control findings and resolutions.
- Completes necessary training as required to stay current on all regulations/guidelines and policies/procedures.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience
- Five years to eight years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience.
Education/Certifications/Licenses
- A high school degree or equivalent. Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving history.
Interpersonal Skills
- The ability to motivate or influence internal or external senior level professionals is a critical part of the job, requiring a significant level of influence and trust. Obtaining cooperation and agreement on important outcomes via frequently complex, senior level dialogues, as well as a professional level of written communication skills are essential to the position.
Other Skills:
- Experience in underwriting or a related role involving the review and analysis of loans.
- Strong understanding of mortgage and equity loan processing, closing, documentation requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Solid understanding of the underwriting process, including relevant criteria, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Working familiarity with tax return and balance sheet review.
- Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills.
