JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position Summary
The Quality Engineer - Plant Auditor is responsible for organizing, scheduling, and conducting quality audits (e.g., ISO 9001, IATF 16949, VDA 6.3). This role involves leading plant resources through corrective actions and improvements based on audit findings. The auditor also serves as the focal contact for external audits (e.g., QFMA, ISO, Product Safety, customer).
Essential Functions
- Audit Management:
- Create and Maintain Audit Schedules: Develop and manage a comprehensive audit schedule to ensure all necessary audits are conducted in a timely manner.
- Lead ISO/VDA Audits: Conduct internal audits based on ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and VDA 6.3 standards to ensure compliance with quality management systems.
- Conduct Process and Product Audits: Perform detailed audits of manufacturing processes and products to identify areas for improvement and ensure adherence to quality standards.
- Serve as Focal Contact for External Audits: Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors, including those from QFMA, IATF, and customers. Lead preparation activities to ensure successful audit outcomes.
- Corrective Actions:
- Lead Teams Through Corrective Actions: Guide cross-functional teams in developing and implementing corrective actions to address audit findings and improve processes.
- Develop and Implement Corrective Actions: Provide leadership in creating effective corrective action plans and ensuring their implementation to resolve quality issues.
- Track Audit Actions to Completion: Monitor the progress of corrective actions and ensure that all audit findings are addressed and closed out in a timely manner.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify Opportunities for Improvement: Analyze audit results to identify trends and areas for improvement in manufacturing processes and quality management systems.
- Implement Process Improvements: Work with plant resources to implement changes that enhance product quality, reduce defects, and improve overall efficiency.
- Monitor and Analyze Process Performance: Use data and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of implemented improvements and make further adjustments as needed.
- Product Safety:
- Ensure Compliance with Safety Standards: Conduct audits and assessments to ensure that all products meet relevant safety standards and regulations.
- Conduct Risk Assessments: Perform risk assessments to identify potential safety issues and implement measures to mitigate them.
- Implement Safety Improvements: Work with teams to develop and implement safety improvements based on audit findings and risk assessments.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain Detailed Records: Keep comprehensive records of all audits, findings, and corrective actions to ensure transparency and accountability.
- Prepare Audit Reports: Create detailed audit reports that summarize findings, corrective actions, and recommendations for improvement.
- Communicate Findings: Effectively communicate audit findings and recommendations to relevant stakeholders, including management and external auditors.
Knowledge and Skills
- Working knowledge of VDA 6.3 & 6.5, IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and Advanced Product Quality Planning.
- Familiarity with automotive manufacturing process requirements.
- Experience as a lead auditor.
- Solid experience in a technical field such as Quality Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering.
- High energy, enthusiasm, and a sense of urgency.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Project planning and follow-up skills.
- Ability to build strong customer relationships.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- Six Sigma Black or Green Belt certification is a plus.
- Fluency in English.
Required Experience and Education
- Minimum 5 years of quality experience in the automotive/truck industry with an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or Tier 1 supplier.
- 1-3 years of experience in an engineering environment.
- BS/BSET degree in Manufacturing, Process, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Working knowledge of automotive/trucking industry quality requirements and standards is a plus.
