Job Title: Bookkeeper (75% FTE / Part-Time)
Organization: FIRST Wisconsin
Location: Remote or Hybrid (Wisconsin-based)
Reports To: FIRST Wisconsin President (or Treasurer/Executive Committee upon request)

Position Summary
FIRST Wisconsin is seeking a detail-oriented, reliable part-time Bookkeeper (75% FTE) to manage day-to-day financial activities and support accurate financial reporting. The Bookkeeper will maintain timely, well-organized financial records, ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, and provide financial information to support organizational leadership.
This role is ideal for an experienced nonprofit bookkeeper looking for flexible, part-time work with a mission-driven organization.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Record and reconcile all financial transactions, including deposits, expenses, transfers, invoices, and purchases
- Maintain the general ledger in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards
- Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, including issuing invoices and tracking customer payments
- Prepare, issue, and track invoices in a timely manner
- Manage purchasing activities, including purchase requests, purchase orders, and vendor coordination
- Process expense reimbursements and vendor payments
Financial Reporting Support
- Support preparation of monthly financial statements (e.g., Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet)
- Support budget tracking and variance reporting
- Assist with grant tracking and restricted funds reporting
- Provide financial information to the FIRST Wisconsin President (or Treasurer/Executive Committee upon request)
Compliance & Support
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial policies and procedures
- Maintain organized financial records and documentation
- Assist with annual audit preparation and Form 990 support
- Coordinate with external accountant or CPA as needed
Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years of bookkeeping and/or accounting experience
- Strong understanding of Wisconsin nonprofit accounting, regulations, and requirements
- Proficiency with QuickBooks
- Experience working with restricted funds
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage deadlines independently
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Resident of Wisconsin
Preferred
- 3+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience in a nonprofit environment
- Experience working with grants
- Experience supporting audits and Form 990 preparation
Work Schedule & Compensation
- Time Commitment: Approximately 30 hours per week (75% FTE), flexible scheduling
- Compensation: Competitive hourly rate ($18-$24), commensurate with experience
- Work Environment: Remote or hybrid
