Mid-Continent Group is seeking a Senior Commercial Underwriter to join our Underwriting team. The position will work in either the downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma, or the downtown Cincinnati, Ohio office.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal business in accordance with Company underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
Analyze risk data to make informed decisions on coverage, pricing, and terms.
Collaborate with actuaries, agents, brokers, and clients to obtain necessary information and clarify details.
Order and review additional reports and screens, such as motor vehicle reports, loss history reports, outside inspections, etc., to inform decisions.
Ensure proper documentation of underwriting decisions and compliance with state and federal insurance regulations.
Evaluate existing policies for potential renewal or modification.
Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and effectively to internal teams, agents, and brokers.
Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions.
Develop and maintain effective business relationships with internal and external customers/coworkers, focusing on generating new business and retaining profitable business.
Interpret, explain, and market products and services.
Perform other related duties.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Risk Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Generally, 5 years of related Commercial General Liability, Automobile, Excess/Umbrella, and Inland Marine experience is required.
Commercial underwriting experience required, energy (renewable and green energy, upstream and midstream oil & gas) underwriting preferred, but not necessary.
Completion of or progress toward a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Underwriting (AU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Program in General Insurance (INS), or Associate of Risk Management (ARM).
